Key Nutrients :

SMA Staydown Can

All the right nutrients in the right amounts

  • Protein
  • Nucleotides
  • Antioxidants (beta-carotene and selenium)

Protein

Appropriate protein profile for babies with reflux

Unlike SMA Gold* which has a whey dominant protein profile like breast milk, SMA Staydown is formulated to be casein dominant.

Various studies have reported a slower gastric emptying in infants fed casein dominant formula compared to whey based formula.1-3

Together with the addition of a pre-cooked corn starch, this allows the formula to stay in the stomach and be less likely to be brought back up the oesophagus.

Nucleotides

Helping to build an infant’s immunity

Without the right nutrients to help develop the immune system, infants may become more susceptible to infection.

For this reason, SMA Staydown contains nucleotides, which naturally occur in breast milk, to help develop the immune system.4,5

DID YOU KNOW?

SMA Staydown is the only infant formula for significant reflux to contain nucleotides

Antioxidants

Protecting infants as they grow

SMA Staydown contains antioxidants, beta-carotene and selenium to help protect against cell damage from free radicals.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  Breast feeding is best for babies.  Pre-thickened infant formulae are intended to replace breast milk when mothers do not breast feed and when significant reflux (regurgitation) is a problem.  Good maternal nutrition is important for preparation and maintenance of breast feeding. Introducing partial bottle feeding may have a negative effect on breast feeding and reversing a decision not to breast feed is difficult.   You should always seek the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist on the need for and proper method of use of infant milks and on all matters of infant feeding.  Infant milk should always be prepared and used as directed.  Unnecessary or improper use of infant formula may present a health hazard.  Social and financial implications should be considered when selecting a method of infant feeding.  If the baby's reflux does not improve within 2 weeks of starting use of a pre-thickened infant formula, or if the infant fails to thrive, the family doctor should be consulted.
