SMA LF formula is nutritionally complete for up to 6 months of age, so a baby will receive all the nutrients needed for healthy growth and development – only without the lactose which may be upsetting their stomachs. SMA LF is also suitable for older infants and young children up to 18 months of age, in conjunction with solid food. What is Lactose Intolerance?
- Lactose intolerance (which is usually a temporary problem) is due to the absence or reduction of the digestive enzyme lactase
- Lactose intolerance is often secondary to gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and bowel) and is implicated in colic
- Less common in breastfed babies
- Causes abdominal pain, wind, loose stools and poor weight gain or weight loss
- Lasts for a few days or up to a few weeks
