SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk

SMA{®} PRO Follow-on Milk

An iron- and nutrient-enriched formula that is designed specifically to meet the nutritional needs of babies from 6 months of age as part of a varied weaning diet.

SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk, our most advanced formula yet, now made with our exclusive protein process*. It also contains NUTRI-STEPS™ to help support a nutritional foundation for life.

Fortified with iron which UK dietary surveys show can be lacking in infant diets1

Iron helps to support normal cognitive development

Vitamin D and calcium to help support the normal growth and development of bone

Omega 3 and 6 to help support normal growth and development of children**

Contains GOS/FOS

The first 1000 days of a baby’s life have a life-long impact on many aspects of future health.

As babies start to receive complementary food at around 6 months, it’s important they continue to receive good quality protein at an appropriate level. National dietary surveys show that in infants over 6 months, average daily protein intake exceeds recommendations and intakes of iron and vitamin D may be sub-optimal.1

SMA PRO Follow-on Milk is Halal-approved

Preparing your baby’s feed

Whilst this product is made under strict hygienic conditions, it is not sterile. Failure to follow instructions on preparation and storage may make your baby ill.

1. Wash hands well. After 6 months of age, if you are using a beaker it is not necessary to sterilise equipment, though you should ensure everything has been fully cleaned. If you are using a bottle and teat, sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers’ instructions.

2. Boil 1 litre of fresh tap water. Allow boiled water to cool for no more than 30 minutes. Measure 180 ml (approx. 6 fl. oz.) of water into a beaker or bottle, carefully – the water is hot. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water. Using the scoop provided, add 6 scoops of powder, levelling off each scoop with the back of a clean, dry knife.

3. Place a lid on the beaker or a teat and cap on the bottle, and shake well. Cool beaker or bottle under cold running water or in a bowl or jug of cold water until lukewarm. Test temperature by shaking a few drops on to the inside of your wrist.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended that pregnant women and new mothers be informed on the benefits and superiority of breastfeeding – in particular the fact that it provides the best nutrition and protection from illness for babies. Mothers should be given guidance on the preparation for, and maintenance of, lactation, with special emphasis on the importance of a well-balanced diet both during pregnancy and after delivery. Unnecessary introduction of partial bottle-feeding or other foods and drinks should be discouraged since it will have a negative effect on breastfeeding. Similarly, mothers should be warned of the difficulty of reversing a decision not to breastfeed. Before advising a mother to use an infant formula, she should be advised of the social and financial implications of her decision: for example, if a baby is exclusively bottle-fed, more than one can (400 g) per week will be needed, so the family circumstances and costs should be kept in mind. Mothers should be reminded that breast milk is not only the best, but also the most economical food for babies. SMA PRO Follow-on Milk is only suitable for babies over 6 months as part of a mixed diet.  It should not be used as a substitute for breast milk during the first 6 months. The decision to start weaning or to use this product before 6 months, should be made only on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist, based on baby’s individual needs.● SMA PRO Toddler Milk is suitable for young children from 1-3 years, as part of a healthy balanced diet and it is not a breast milk substitute.
